I am just back from my trip to San Francisco and I must say its a beautiful city. It is often called the Bay city. The main attractions of the city include: Alcatraz ( Which is a actually a prison), The Golden Gate Bridge and Fisherman's Wharf. Don't forget to take a city tour on a hop on- hop off bus (The ticket is about $ 25/ person). The downtown San Francisco has some great stores for shopping like Nike, Levis, Victoria's secret, Saks Fifth Avenue,Virgin records and various other designer boutiques. Also, I highly recommend visiting, ' The Cheese Cake factory' to try some delicious cheese cakes.

Isn't Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix overrated ?
I am not criticising or being judgemental about new Harry Potter movie, " Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" but I think the movie is a bit overrated. It was same old storyline, same old magic tricks and same old witches and wizards. Wait a sec, is it that I was expecting too much from this movie?
I am wondering if I have lost my sense of delving into fantasy world and enjoying pure fiction. Well, I would give this movie 7 out of 10 but everyone around me seems to be responding its an awesome movie. I personally feel movie was too long and was boring in certain parts. Nonetheless it made a lot of money and everyone seems to be mystified and smitten by Harry Potter.
Does anyone else share my opinion?

Lovely Lake Louise
Lake Louise is one of the most spectacular places in the world. I went to this lovely resort (perfect for Weddings) in May and Lake Louise was still frozen. During summers when the lake melts, one can view greenish blue waters of the lake. It is a small town only about 45 minutes from Banff and about 1 hour 45 minutes from Calgary.

Movie Review: Knocked up
Last night I went to see the movie, 'Knocked up' with a bunch of my friends and almost all the girls in my group happened to go gaga over this saga. However, I feel the movie was just o.k. My husband, Manoj thinks that it was the funniest movie of this year and I question him: Was it better than Wild Hogs? Our debate over which one was better is never ending because none of us would accept defeat.
I think the movie was too cheesy. I am not saying it was bad but definitely not one of my favourites. It was just too slow in parts and the storyline was nothing unusual. I can say it's definitely a one time watch but if you haven't seen it wait until the video comes out.

Fabulous Fernie and Kimberley
My trip to Fernie and Kimberley in the first week of April with my co-workers was a great success. I had a chance to witness the real beauty of the Kootenays. The trip to Kimberley from Kelowna can take about six hours but along the way you can really see British Columbia's scenery.
Day 4: April 4th-We got up early morning to head back to Kelowna . We stopped at Rossland/Red mountain to have a look at this small ski hill. I was home by 3.00 pm.

Angels Fall by Nora Roberts
I had been planning to read Angels Fall, an interesting piece of work by Nora Roberts, since a long time and I have just finished reading it. Angels Fall is a story of a young woman named 'Reece Gilmore' who is the only survivor and witness of a tragic incident in Boston. The story begins with her struggle to put her past behind and move on with her life. She witnesses a murder in a beautiful small little town of Angels Fall but there are no signs of the murder on the scene. Did she actually witness the murder or was it just the figment of her imagination? Some of the characters are really likeable such as Brody, the writer who is the love interest of our heroine and helps her solve this murder mystery and Joannie, the owner of the restaurant who gives shelter and support to Reece during tough times. This book is a romantic thriller and becomes an intense murder mystery in the last few chapters when the reader trys to figure out who the killer is and why? The ending is surprising. All in all, Angels Fall is an entertaining novel to enjoy during those long summer days.

Three Fates by Nora Roberts
I have just finished reading 'Three Fates' by Nora Roberts which I borrowed from Kelowna Library and I liked it. I wouldn't say its one of the best novels I have ever read but definitely its fascinating and engaging upto a point. It simply becomes too predicatable midway. I do agree with critics when they say novel has vivid characters and a strong plot but wouldn't say its a suspense thriller and impossible to put down.
Three fates is a novel based on a treasure hunt, romance and interesting theme of Legendary three fates of Greek mythology which were three separate statues ( Called Clotho,Lachesis and Atropus ) linked together by their bases. Three Fates were said to spin the thread of life of a person, determine his destiny and ultimately destroy him in the end and were of value (artistically and historically) only when they were all three together. The story revolves around Anita Gaye-ruthless business woman, Jack Burnedtt- High tech security expert, Tia Marsh- professor of Greek mythology, Cleo Toliver-a stripper and club dancer and Sullivan Family.
I am a voracious reader and enjoy different types of fiction and as a teenager read lot of Sidney Sheldon and Danielle Steele but never had a chance to lay my hands on a novel by Nora Roberts. I am glad I could read 'Three Fates' and am looking forward to reading couple of her other fictional books.

Anchor Inn , Armstrong
Last week while driving back from 'Revelstoke,' I happened to stop at Armstrong to grab a quick lunch and ended up trying this cool little restaurant 'Anchor Inn' situated in the heart of Armstrong. Large anchor painted on one of the walls of the restaurant quickly caught my attention and didn't fail to impress me. Anchor Inn offers interesting nautical ambience for sea lovers. It has an outdoor patio where food can be enjoyed on a nice summer evening. The food at Anchor Inn is quite good and satisfies the taste buds of those looking for reasonable portion of pastas , burgers or stir frys. If you like dry ribs, you will surely relish Anchor ribs as a starter which is basically pork rib tail ends tossed in Anchor Inn's special seasoned rib sauce. Although a bit pricey ( $ 8.95 CAD), Anchor Ribs are worth a try. Anchor Inn also offers a take-out option for those who like to grab food on run. All the wraps and sandwiches are served with our choice of fries, soup or salad. I also happened to try 'Baked Downrigger wrap' which was absolutely mouth watering. Wrap consisted of saut'eed red and green peppers, onions, rice, chicken and cheese rolled in tortilla, baked till crispy. I did not try entre'es but they looked quite interesting too like Drambuie prawns, Pork schnitzel,BBQ ribs and T-bone steak and were being served with fresh vegetables and our choice of potato( baked, mashed or fries) or rice pilaf or fettucini alfredo. If you are not feeling that hungry, Anchor Inn can delight you with one of its lighter meal options like a steak sandwich or seafood quesadillas. Next time you happen to pass through Armstrong, check out 'Anchor Inn' located on 3030 smith drive.

Indian cuisine in Kelowna
There is a new addition to the restaurants offering Indian Cuisine in Kelowna and I had the opportunity to try this restaurant the very first day after its grand opening. I must say the food at this new place called 'Samosas' is delicious and ambience is purely Indian. We already have two other popular Indian restaurants in Kelowna i.e. Dawett and Chutney and now we have another feather in the hat 'Samosas.' This new restaurant drive its name from a tasty indian snack 'samosas' which is a crispy and spicy triangular pastry filled with potatoes ,onions and sometimes peas and cottage cheese. This colourful downtown dining room beckons with spicy offerings at very reasonable rates such as butter chicken , chana masala and variety of tasty appetizers. The name Dawett is a destorted version of hindi word 'Dawat' which means feast.
In my personal opinion, although dawett serves authentic Indian food and is very busy during the weekends, it seriously needs some refurnishing as its ambience has lost it magic touch. Dawett and Samosas are both within walking distance from queensway station ,Kelowna and just blocks away from each other whereas Chutney is located on Pandosy street. I would rate the three as follows:-
Based on interiors and decor
Based on food and variety of dishes
- Dawett
- Chutney
- Samosas
Dawett and Chutney are operated by the same owner so there is quite a simmilarity between the dishes. All my friends praise the Mango Lassi of 'Dawett' which is a non alcoholic drink made from mango and yogurt. In 'Chutney', chaat as an appetizer is worth a try and if you happen to be at 'Samosas' for a fine Indian cuisine experience, butter chicken is highly recommended. If you have any questions regarding Indian Cuisine email me at aditi.jasra@gmail.com. Until next time enjoy Indian food.

Movie Review 'Wild Hogs'
I am just back after watching the movie 'Wild Hogs'. It was one of those days when nothing went right at work and I was totally exhausted by the time I returned home in the evening. I needed to unwind myself and I couldn't think of anything better than watching something light and funny. My options were limited as only few good comedy movies are playing in the theaters this week so I decided to rent a video. However, on absolute insistence of my husband I went to watch the movie 'Wild Hogs'.
Movie can be summed up in a single word as 'Hilarious.' I don't know why I had an impression that it's a guy movie and would be action-packed. I guess movie posters which showed four guys on a bike created that image in my mind. Nonetheless the story line doesn't put too much pressure on your brain like some other movies playing like 'The number 23 ' and 'Premonition' (which are both currently playing in theatres) and wasn't complicated to understand. I couldn't control my laughter during some of the scenes; It almost made me want to go on a road trip on a motor bike. So, if you want to watch a light comedy and relax then choose 'Wild Hogs.'
Movie Review: 300
After a long time, I had a chance to see 'Grand 10' theatre in Kelowna full to its maximum capacity. It was the second week of the movie '300'. It was interesting to see a movie based on Greek history especially kingdom of Sparta and it really made me say 'Wow'. I actually recommended it to my friends telling them that it's an awesome movie and a must watch. While talking to my co-workers, I was so passionate about 300 that one of my co-workers pretended sickness, took a day off and went to watch the movie and later on commented that he wasn't disappointed. 300 is an inspiring tale of bravery and patriotism and it almost reminded me of the poem 'Ulysses' by Lord Alfred Tennyson which I read in grade 9
'Tho' much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.'
300 is absolute MUST SEE!

Movie review 'The Ninth Gate'
Ever heard of a movie called 'The ninth gate?' Can't remember it. Don't worry. I did not know about it either until I saw it on the stand in the movie store. While I was standing there wondering whether to pick it up or not , it crossed my mind I might as well read the cover. I read the cover and it seemed intriguing so I picked it up to watch over the weekend. I am not a big 'Johny Depp' fan but I appreciated his work in 'Pirates of the Caribbean' so I thought I might give this one a try as well . Johny Depp has done a pretty decent job as a book detective in the movie. I like movies which are off beat, unique and thrilling and this one happened to fall in that category. However, I do feel the movie could have been made more intense. Looking at the cover, I thought it to be scary but it was not. Also, in parts, it just seemed too predictable. Nonetheless I enjoyed it, so I would definitely say if you haven't seen it , Why don't you give it a try? I personally feel that the movie left a few things unanswered, if you get a chance to watch it, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Have a quick bite
I remember from my days in India that whenever I use to get hungry or crave for an appetizer, there were always those good old Indian sweet shops around the corner to let you indulge in pure eating decadence. You could pick pakoras , samosas or if the need used to be to eat something sweet..there were umpteen options like jalebi , gulabjamun, burfi, gajar ka halwa and the list goes on. Things seem to have changed now. My brother who is a mumbaite now doesn't trust our typical mithai walas or for that matter there samosas and jalebis. He is totally a burger guy. Scene is totally different here in Kelowna. Quizno subs, Mcdonalds, Tim Hortons, A&W, Wendy's are some of your options if you want a quick bite. Last weekend after having an early dinner and enjoying some old movies I went to bed at about 11.00 clock. Surprisingly, I couldn't sleep and the reason I figured out was hunger pangs. Even my dear hubby was tossing and turning. Apparently he craved for a snack too. We decided to sit on the Internet and explore our options. Most of the eating places in Kelowna close at about 11.00 pm and my husband had declared that I take about half an hour to get ready so we should go to some place which is open late. Our best bet was 'Boston Pizza, Kelowna.' We were relieved to find out that it is open till 2.00 clock in the morning. So, next time you have hunger pangs in the middle of the night, head straight for Boston Pizza.

'Milestones', Kelowna
If you happen to get hungry while shopping in the Orchard park mall in Kelowna (one of the few good places to shop in Kelowna) and crave for some fine dining or casual lunch then Milestones is your best bet. Located by the mall, Milestones has some delicious food and nice ambiance. Try Chicken Thai drummettes (Drizzled with peanut sauce. Served with toasted sesame-cucumber mayonnaise) as an appetizer and you will end up saying "These are so good." The Main menu has a lot to offer from pizza, burgers, noodles to steak, pasta and portions are good enough to be shared by a couple(you won't be left hungry). In case you are still left hungry why not tempt your taste-buds with a slice of white chocolate cheesecake.

Clothes Swap
So, if you always wanted to get rid of that orange sweater that your aunt gave you as a birthday present or that blue shirt that you brought thinking it looks absolutely chic (but then u realised it is just too tight for you..Perhaps, you've put on some weight) then get ready to invite some friends over and have fun trying on some clothes. Who knows you might get a chance to grab those brown pants that you wanted to buy so badly on christmas sale in 2005 but your best friend picked it up before you even had a chance to look at the price tag. Good thing about clothes swap is that if you never wanted to part with that white jacket in the first place you might continue to see it (ofcourse worn by your friend) if that jacket is lucky enough to find a place in someone's cuboard. Atleast you will not feel guilty of giving away your favourite jacket to a charity or a thrift store. But don't complain if your closet cannot hold all those new clothes that you got from your friends and you feel as if you have more clothes than you thought you will get rid of. What are you waiting for? Get ready to swap till you drop by inviting some of your stylish friends over...

Movie Review "The Pursuit Of Happyness"
Want to see a movie which makes you feel really sorry for the hero? Want to watch a movie where you pity the protagonist? Want to watch a movie which makes you want to count your blessings and feel lucky that at least you have a roof on your head then go buy a ticket for 'The Pursuit of Happyness.' I wouldn't recommend this movie if you want to watch something delightful or pleasing. The movie focuses on unwavering faith in one's dreams and unfailing determination to follow them. 'The Pursuit Of Happyness' does not only tell the story of an unsuccessful salesman struggling to become a stockbroker but also throws light on a father-son relationship. Jaden Smith(the real life son of Will Smith) in the role of reel life son of the struggling stockbroker looks quite promising and it won't be wrong if I say that this boy definitely has a long way to go.

Movies Review
It is interesting when you can get movie special offers. The other night when I went to Rogers Video store in Kelowna, they were offering three movies for $9.99 otherwise you get one movie for about say $4.99. I was excited to know that I can watch three movies instead of one. I had gone to get "The Interpreter" which wasn't available. So, now the issue was choosing something that I would enjoy watching sitting on my couch with pop in one hand and bowl of popcorn in the other. I thought hard "what do I want to watch?" Do I want to watch comedy, drama, mystery or is it thrill that I am craving for? I went around the movie store looking at different titles, the new arrivals, the academy award winners, foreign movies, so on and so forth. Finally, I picked up three movies which I always wanted to watch but never had a chance to. I chose "A Beautiful Mind," "The Sixth Sense," and "8 Mile." Since last three nights I had been watching one movie each night and critically evaluating them. The movie that I liked the best was "The Sixth Sense" followed by "A Beautiful Mind" and then "8 Mile."
Undoubtedly, Russell Crowe has done an awesome job as a sick mathematician in the movie "A Beautiful Mind." The Movie is very well crafted, touching and so different from usual run of the mill movies. Jennifer Connelly as Alicia Nash plays a true wife who stands by her husband through thick and thin. All in all, movie is really good.
I did not like "8 Mile" that much may be because I was expecting too much from it due to the hype it has caused, may be it was too predictable or simply because it was not my type of a movie. The Movie definitely has some enjoyable rap contests although language is very strong and hardcore.
M Night Shyamalan is one of my favourite directors and I have always been impressed by his works and once again he has proved his directorial capabilities through "The Sixth Sense." Haley Osment as a troubled ten year old child looks absolutely brilliant and Bruce Willis has done justice to his role as a child psychologist. The Movie can be summed up in one word as 'stunning.'

Fine dining at Bouchons Bistro, Kelowna
Are you fond of french cuisine? If yes, then your search for a fancy french restaurant will end at Bouchons Bistro. Bouchons is one of the best and finest dining places in Kelowna. It is a classic french style restaurant located in downtown Kelowna but the resturant is neither too old(opened in Kelowna in 2004) nor does it have much seating capacity. Although I am not a wine drinker, I could figure out that the restaurant has an impressive wine list. Also, the restaurant offers some really delicious food. The appetizer that I tried was country style duck rillettes with Madeira and fresh herbs which was unlike my taste. However, what I enjoyed eating was braised rabbit casserole in dijon mustard and tarragon. I definitely recommend trying out the rabbit dish but like me you might find the size of the serving a bit small. One thing I found interesting was that all entrees were being served with famous “pommes frites” (Belgian style fries). The specialities of the restaurant include some mouth watering duck dishes like duck confit glazed with honey and spices in old sherry sauce. So, if you want real french dining experience choose Bouchons Bistro but be careful as it might get a little expensive.
Dinner at Moxie's Classic Grill, Kelowna
Last night, I had a wonderful dinner with friends at Moxie's Classic Grill to celebrate the engagement of two of my good friends, Maizal and Lindsay. The choice of restaurant was obvious as Moxie's is centrally located and is one of the upbeat restaurants of Kelowna. Moxie's has a beautiful decor which is warm and luxurious at the same time. The restaurant is family friendly and includes a kids menu. I must say the food at Moxie's is quite sumptuous and you might have tough time deciding what to eat as there is wide variety of dishes. Although dinner at Moxie's is absolutely satisfying, you must save some appetite to enjoy their dessert which is an absolute delight. Whether you choose blackberry apple crisp or mocha Kahlua cheesecake you'll simple love it. However, my favourite is white chocolate brownie which is simply irresistible as it is made of white and dark chocolate folded into a white chocolate brownie, finished with french vanilla ice cream, real whipped cream, and warm chocolate sauce. All in all, Moxie's classic grill is a perfect place to meet friends after work or to have a fabulous dinner with family.

Happening Hangout "Kelly O' Brien's"
It was a chilly Friday evening and as I had been shopping for about two hours, I was a little hungry. Manoj, my husband suggested that we go and check out Kelly O'Brien's, one of the most happening hangouts in downtown Kelowna. As I entered the pub, it smelled like Lays' potato chips and since it was jam-packed we had to wait for about ten minutes before we were seated. I discovered that since this place is located close to the lake, has a rooftop patio, has variety of specials throughout the week and is not expensive that it has become one of the hot favourites of the locals. Servers dressed in Irish style kilts look pretty impressive. Kelly O'Briens claims that Pachos is their original invention. Believe me, they actually have the best Pacho's found anywhere in the world. You can also enjoy two appetizers for the price of one (after nine) and there is plenty to choose from. So, if you happen to be in Kelowna and crave for Irish-style food, head straight for Kelly O' Briens.

Trip to Las Vegas
I was excited when Manoj said " Aditi, Let's go to Las Vegas for a holiday." I precisely remember it was a hot summer evening when he made this offer. Within a week we packed our bags, gathered as much information as we could about Las Vegas vacation from friends, internet and Travel agents, made reservation with Hotel Aladdin and were off to Vegas for a week in July 2006. We caught a flight from Kelowna to Seattle and then to Las Vegas. Our vacation in Las Vegas was an ultimate experience. This city offers spectacular tours, breathtaking shows and an endless list of action-packed activities. While in Vegas I realised every hotel in Vegas was an amusement centre in itself. Cirque Du Soleil shows which we saw in Vegas were absolutely amazing. It was thrilling to see "Zumanity" which was naughty as well as a daring show. On the other hand "Mystere" offered enchantment beyond comparison. These were two of the best shows in Vegas. It was also enjoyable to discover Las vegas through Monorail. Besides paid shows, many Hotels offer free shows like Sirens of Treasure Island and Dancing Fountains of Bellagio. I grabbed a hold of my favourite celebrities at Madame Tussauds wax museum at the hotel Venetian. Other places we enjoyed were Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical gardens and Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay. Fine places to eat are Rainforest Cafe(where I was quite impressed by exotic atmosphere and a lightning show) , Ristorante Italiano (if you like Italian Food as much as I do , you can't afford to miss this one), Zanziber Cafe (provides food 24 hrs) and Tamba for Indian cuisine. I also recommend Spice Market Buffet at Alladin which offers incredible variety of food from all over the world. Now, if you are wondering where to party I will suggest "Body English " at Hard Rock Cafe. My Husband and I enjoyed swinging to music that was mainly hip-hop and rock.If you are lucky enough, you might be able to spot a model or two while at this place. All in all Vegas offers you nothing but good time.

Ravishing Revelstoke, British Columbia
Picturesque Penticton, British Columbia
One of my favourite places in British Columbia's Okanagon valley is Penticton. It's a nice little peaceful town with spectacular natural beauty. It is cradled between lake Okanagan and Skaha. Before I visited this lovely place, I thought it to be a sleepy little town but to my surprise Penticton had a lot to offer in terms of tourism and activities like golfing , hiking , mountain biking, scooter rides, fun water activities etc. You can rent vacation homes, condos, cottages or ready to stay RV's and enjoy serene beauty of Penticton. If you happen to visit Penticton in summers then you can relax lying by the beach and reading a book, eating an icecream, having a picnic, simply sunbathing , playing games with friends and family like beach volleyball, or gaze up at the clear blue skies and take an afternoon nap. One of my favourite places for lunch in Penticton is Saltys beach house, which is a caribbean style restaurant with some mouth watering dishes . If you are looking for a place to escape from craziness of busy daily lives then consider visiting Penticton.

Beautiful Kelowna, British Columbia
It's almost been a year since I have been living in Kelowna and I am completly in love with this beautiful small urban city with a population of about 105,000. If you are a nature lover, I can guarantee that you will love this city. The beauty of Kelowna British Columbia is absolutely enchanting because it is surrounded by green forested mountains merging with lush orchards, vineyards, and golf courses overlooking the sparkling waters of 82 mile long Lake Okanagan. Downtown Kelowna has lot to offer, from fine dining to quiet walk by lake. If you are looking to shop i will suggest Orchard Park mall although Kelowna doesn't offer much in terms of shopping. Kelowna does have some cool restaurants like Moxies, WhiteSpot, Bouchons Bistro, East Side Marios etc. If you want some tongue tickling East Indian food go to Daawat or Chutney. The best place for vegetarian Chinese food is Lake Tai. If you like golfing you will enjoy playing golf at the lovely golf courses that Kelowna has to offer. My favourite is the Harvest golf club. All in all Kelowna is one of the most mesmerising and peaceful cities in the Okanagan. If you are fed up with fast and stressful big city life then come to Kelowna.
Movie Review "The Holiday"
If you love watching chick flicks as much as I do on a lazy winter day then this is the movie for you. This movie is about two girls Iris (who works for a newspaper) and Amanda (Movie Trailer creator)...how they lose and find new love during a perfect holiday season. If you happen to be sentimental enough and take love matters seriously then some emotional scenes are sure to bring tears in your eyes...Cameron Diaz looks simply dazzling whereas Kate Winslet's makeup man could have done a better job. Jude Law has done justice to his role and Jack Black as usual looks funny (I can't seem to get his Nacho Libre image out of my mind).
Cool Restaurant in Sicamous, British Columbia
If you ever decide to pass by Sicamous, don't forget to visit this cool restaurant "MOOSE MULLIGANS." Believe me, you will find the food delicious and the ambience awesome.I'll definitely recommend chicken parmesan .It's an absolute delight. So if you are in Sicamous and want to have some tasty food..you know now where to go.
Don't forget to check out more about cool places in British Columbia at British Columbia Tours
